He’d been out of work for five years due to health problems – but Mehedi Mohammad dreamed of finding a rewarding job. Now, with help from the Work and Health Programme, his wish has come true.

“I was lucky to have a patient and kind Triage adviser,” says Mehedi. “She helped me to write a CV and enrolled me on different courses to improve my confidence.”

Triage supports people with disabilities and health conditions to find jobs through the Department for Work and Pensions’ Work and Health Programme. Specialist employment advisers offer tailored support and training opportunities to encourage people to reach their full potential.

Mehedi’s main barrier to finding a job was his CV, which needed an overhaul, and the fact he had been out of work for so long. He says: “When I first started coming to Triage I was not in a good shape, although I had academic qualifications and work experience.”

Mehedi knew that finding a job would make a big difference to his life: “I was not feeling comfortable, mentally or morally,” he says. “I wanted to work for my family, my wellbeing and of course, to earn money and be better off. My goal was always to work and build a career.”

With guidance and support from his Triage adviser, Mehedi secured a job as a customer assistant at a retail store. He couldn’t be more pleased.

“It was an absolutely amazing experience with Triage,” he adds.

Triage delivers the Work and Health Programme in North East England, working with Reed in Partnership. The programme is co-financed by the European Social Fund.
