Ruth The Feel Amazing Therapist

Ruth, AKA The Feel Amazing Therapist, lives in Marske-by-the-Sea - a small coastal village in Tees Valley, with her two teenage children.

“After decades of struggling with my own mental wellbeing, I was feeling pretty ‘meh’ and I started working with a life coach. I soon regained my self-confidence and started to ‘feel amazing’. From there, my world changed and I knew I wanted to help other people feel the same way,” said Ruth.

“Some people call me crazy, but I swim at least once a week in the North Sea – it’s my happy place,” said Ruth.

This gave Ruth an idea - to turn her passion into a business and Triage’s Self-Employment Adviser, Steph Campbell was ready to help through the TVCA Funded Tees Valley Entrepreneurs programme and other TVCA programmes, including Digital Transformation and Expertise mentoring.

Ruth was already a confidence, mindset and mental wellbeing therapist, encouraging her clients to make ‘feeling amazing’ a lifestyle choice rather than a fleeting feeling but Ruth wanted to add another string to her bow – a new cold water therapy business, Chill to Fulfill:

“When I saw the TVCA support programmes, I knew it would help me confidently launch Chill to Fulfill, which focuses on cold water therapy. My business offers clients a private and guided cold water immersion experience, starting with confidence coaching and guided meditation, followed by an ice bath and a steam tent session to create the hot-and-cold contrast,” said Ruth.

Ruth continued, “I also wanted to expand my life coaching and therapy business, to offer workplace wellbeing workshops. The mentor support helped me develop clear packages, look at actual profit and losses of my packages, and create a promotional video.”

Cold water swimming has become more popular over recent years, but many people struggle with the idea of open-water swimming:

“I wanted to create a private and safe environment where people could experience the benefits of cold water therapy without the risks of the sea, lakes, or waterfalls,” said Ruth. “This is a completely unique offering in the North East and although I had faith in my idea, I had no clear plan for marketing, pricing or promotion.”

This is where Triage, Like Us and Orange Box came in. From copywriting, business mentoring, social media support, videography and financial planning, Ruth’s idea was brought to life. “The support provides expert guidance helping you grow professionally and personally,” said Ruth. “It has helped me move forward with my business while taking away some of the headache.”

Now an award-winning ‘woman in business’, with media appearances on Zetland FM, the Gazette’s Teesside Live and BBC Radio Tees, Ruth is the proud owner of two successful wellbeing businesses. Talking about her entrepreneurship journey, Ruth shared her advice for future business owners: “It’s ok to admit your weaknesses and seek support – we cannot be good at everything.”
