Sweet taste of self-employment success

Deborah joined the Restart Scheme and was supported by Triage Self-Employment Adviser, Amy Crone. While Deborah had already completed extensive research and had a clear direction for her business, the Restart Scheme was able to assist with practical aspects such as registering with the local authority and providing funding for insurance, business cards, and marketing collateral. Deborah even transformed her kitchen and hallway ensuring her customers would have a great first impression when collecting their cake. And, the icing on the cake – a well-earned, five-star hygiene rating from the council.

Reflecting on her journey, Deborah, owner of The Beach House Baker, shared her thoughts:

"The support I received from the Restart Scheme was so much more than just practical help like insurance and tools. Amy was a great listener and took the time to fully understand what I wanted to achieve. Her wealth of knowledge meant she could give me the right kind of help that was tailored exactly to my needs."

"Amy, you've been my cheerleader, providing tons of encouragement and clarity. Every time I left the office, I felt more confident, and you regularly checked in to see if I needed anything. It's all this stuff that really helped me and deserves a mention too."

Amy said: "I am honestly so proud of Deborah. I even have friends and family asking me if I've seen this amazing cake baker in the area!"
