Rebecca's Connect to Work success

Rebecca joined the Connect to Work programme in Durham in early February.

Connect to Work has been designed to support individuals with health conditions, disabilities, and complex barriers in finding the right job at the right time with the most suitable employer. Triage is working directly with the North East Combined Authority as a prime provider to deliver Connect to Work.

"As a disabled woman with chronic illness, I had significant concerns about maintaining my current employment," said Rebecca. "Within a few days of self-referring to the service, you (Alana - Rebecca's adviser) contacted me, and we arranged to meet in the community."

Several weeks later, Rebecca secured a new role that suited her current health needs.

"I was nervous and unsure what to expect, but felt so lucky to have such a lovely adviser who took the time to listen to me," said Rebecca. "I wanted a new role for my own confidence and wellbeing, where I felt supported and happy. Alana did a remarkable job instilling self-belief and confidence in me, even during that initial meeting."

"The day I met Rebecca, I turned up with pink hair (due to an incident with an at-home hair dye kit!), so it's fair to say that this certainly broke the ice," joked Alana, Rebecca's adviser. "We chatted over coffee, and with such in-depth, lived experience of people with disabilities and mental health needs, a role where she could use this knowledge seemed like an obvious fit."

The pair worked on a CV and Alana reached out to a few contacts: "We applied for a mental health adviser role, and I knew Rebecca would be perfect," said Alana. "Before long, she had her interview, which she absolutely smashed, and was offered the role!"

"I am extremely happy with the support I received, and Alana will continue to provide long-term support to ensure I manage the transition to my new role and that my health needs are met. I cannot thank you and the Triage team enough for your unwavering support and excellent service I have received so far."

"Alana has changed my life," concluded Rebecca.
